London [UK], October 27: Napoli have confirmed they will appeal against the two-match ban which was given to boss Massimiliano Allegri following their 3-3 draw with Roma on Saturday.
Allegri was sent off shortly after Leonardo Balerdi equalized for Roma in the closing stages and has been handed the touchline suspension for an "insulting remark" towards match officials and "adopted an aggressive attitude" towards a Roma staff member.
Allegri thought Roma's equalizer should have been disallowed after he felt goalscorer Balerdi fouled Sam Beukema in the build-up, and was given a straight red card after he reacted angrily to the goal being given.
The 59-year-old is set to miss Napoli's upcoming Serie A away games with Monza on Wednesday and Juventus on Sunday, and has also been handed with a 10,000 euros ($11,180) fine for his behaviour.
The Lega Serie A confirmed Allegri's punishment on Sunday.
A statement read: "Massimiliano Allegri (Napoli): For directing and insulting remark at the match officials in the 45th minute of the second half.
"Furthermore, in the dressing rooms, he directed a seriously disrespectful remark at the same officials and adopted an aggressive attitude towards an official of the opposing team.
"These incidents were reported by the Fourth Official and the referee, with the final incident also reported by collaborators of the Federal Prosecutor's Office."
Napoli responded quickly to the news and confirmed they will lodge an appeal.
A statement on their club website read: "SSC Napoli announces that, having requested access to the relevant documents, the club will lodge an appeal against the two-match ban given to Massimiliano Allegri." After the game, Allegri claims he said nothing to the fourth official who got him sent off.
He told DAZN Italia: "The fourth official called the referee and got me sent off, but I said absolutely nothing.
"Next time I will have to sit on the bench and not move, because every time I move, I get sent off. I had to pay 80,000euros in fines last season, so maybe I shouldn't even be on the touchline from now on."
