Lagos (Nigeria), April 12: Police in southwest Nigeria's Osun state said they have launched a manhunt for gunmen who shot dead an area leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the country's ruling party, on Monday.
Gbenga Ogbara, an APC chairman of a local government area in Osun, was killed by unidentified gunmen in the early hours on Monday at his house in the town of Igangan of the state, said state police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola in a statement.
Opalola said the body of the APC area chairman has been deposited at a local hospital, and police investigation into the matter is ongoing. She promised that perpetrators of the act would soon be brought to book.
"Policemen had since been deployed to the area. The criminals will not escape justice," she said.
A series of gunmen attacks recently happened in the most populous African country, resulting in deaths and the kidnapping of people.
