Tel Aviv [Israel], November 21: Al Jazeera reported that at least four people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in areas east of Khan Younis city in the Gaza Strip on November 20.
A day earlier, Gaza health officials said at least 28 Palestinians were killed after Israel attacked a Hamas-controlled area.
The Israeli military said it struck Hamas targets across Gaza , after accusing members of the group of opening fire on soldiers in violation of a nearly six-week-old ceasefire. According to Reuters, no Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident. Hamas condemned the Israeli airstrikes as a dangerous escalation and called on the United States to "abide by its stated commitments and immediately put pressure on Israel to implement the ceasefire and end the attacks."
Meanwhile, severe flooding has destroyed tent camps and displaced thousands of families in Gaza to overcrowded emergency centers. Heavy rains last week damaged camps in 29 locations, affecting nearly 12,000 families, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Palestine (OCHA).
In the coastal area of Khan Younis, more than 4,000 families face the risk of rising seawater encroaching on tents, while strong winds have caused many tents to collapse. Families endure cold temperatures without adequate heating and toilets, according to OCHA. The World Health Organization (WHO) said it plans to vaccinate more than 40,000 children in Gaza against measles, whooping cough, hepatitis B, tuberculosis and polio.
